was waiting for my bus home at the macritchie bus stop yesterday when this middle aged man approached me. handing me a flyer, he told me about a mail correspondance bible study course and adviced me to take it up. upon hearing that i'm a chrsitian, he then proceeded to "show off" his knowledge of the bible(which i presume is a result of the correspondance course) by giving me an intro on heaven and hell.
according to him, "There is no such thing as hell! When Christ comes, He'll just gather Satan and those who are not saved, send forth fire from heaven and burn them till there is nothing left. Yep. No such place as hell. How can they(Satan and the unsaved) burn continuously forever one? No lah, just burn till everything is consumed by fire then thats it already. "
at that point of time, i didn't know whether to laugh out loud or argue with him. well to set the facts straight, they WILL burn forever. "And the devil, who deceived them, was thrown into the lake of burning sulfur, where the beast and the false prophet had been thrown. They will be tormented day and night FOR EVER AND EVER" Rev 20:10
its kinda sad i guess, to see false teachings being spead like this, but the thing that strikes me more and sorta set me thinking is this: what if the next time, someone comes up to me, tries to "educate" me and i'm not able to discern fact and fictous? and on a similar note, imagine the damage such false teachings can do to a new believer who goes on to sign up for the mail correspondance course and ends up learning warped doctrines.
there's an immediate need, now more than ever, to equip oneself with the Word; only through this way can we not be swayed easily. take heed ....
