Chaotic thoughts from a passing week
Worship is part of what we, as Christians, should do; after all we are created to praise and worship Him. Many times we find ourselves singing and being so drawn into the songs/lyrics, but how often do we actually mean what we sing? Bible study. Something that we all should go through in our quest of growing in faith and indeed, this is something that I’m sure most of us undergo or have gone through. Yet similarly, do we remember what we’ve learnt and actively assimilate it into our everyday lives? What of the Beatitudes, the Ten Commandments, the Fruits of the Holy Spirit? Are we easily jealous or magnanimous? Are we slow to anger and quick to forgive? Do we lead lives that will glorify God?
These were some of the things that were going through my mind while from the past week as well as today. Whilst listening to Pr Carolyn today, there was a point about living a life of Christ and that sorta set me thinking again. Within our family, exactly how do we go about living a life of Christ? What are the things that you should do as your parents’ child, such that you’ll be living a life of Christ? Our parents love us more than we love them. Don’t deny it cause it’s a fact. Some, if not most of use would choose to bask in their love, but how many of us actually actively reciprocate it?
Don’t assume that you parents would automatically know how much you love them. Perhaps they do, but I’m very sure it’ll touch them more if their child actually goes up to them, kiss/hug them and actually say out how much they appreciate being loved. You’ll be surprised at the kind of effect that a simply “I love you” can have. Just as a child constantly called stupid will eventually feel that he is indeed stupid, anyone who’s constantly reminded that they are loved will feel good about it. This is exactly the reason why during YF Parents’ Appreciation night, I requested that the youths hug and kiss (if they were willing to) their parents even though it wasn’t suppose to be part of the plan initially. No one will ever complain of being over-appreciated. Remember that.
Separating the act from the person
One of the other points that caught my attention almost immediately during the sermon was this. There are a lot of instances when we get angry of pass judgment on others because of the things they do. However, how many of us stop to think about the rationale behind their action? Could it be a reaction as a result of someone’s action or could it be that they’re simply trying to convey a subtle message that they do not know how to bring out otherwise? I myself have been on the receiving end of this when I was of a younger age, and yet I must admit that now that I’m older, I do that to others sometimes, albeit unknowingly. So the next time when someone gets on your nerves, try and put yourselves in their position and perhaps, you won’t feel so angry or irritated after all. Its not easy, but its worth it.
To you: Haha do you know what rehab is about? It’s the suppression of something by channeling the urge somewhere else. Its kind like a law of Conservation you know =)
